Welcome to the official website of the Canadian National Australian Shepherd Association (CNASA) – the caretaker of the Australian Shepherd for the Canadian Kennel Club since 2000.

The Australian Shepherd – or Aussie, to enthusiasts – is a versatile breed that can do it all: compete in conformation, herding, obedience, or agility; perform therapy, service work, and search and rescue; and win hearts as a cherished family companion.

The Canadian National Australian Shepherd Association is committed to maintaining the standard of the breed, as originated by the Australian Shepherd Club of America, the founding registry (and as approved by the Canadian Kennel Club), as the premier standard of excellence for the Australian Shepherd.

The Australian Shepherd is a natural bobtailed or docked breed and must only be judged as such.

CNASA supports the K9 Alliance.

Statement from the Canadian National Australian Shepherd Association concerning the Miniature Australian Shepherd and the Toy Australian Shepherd.

Recently there has been a rise in the movement to breed miniature and toy "versions" of the Australian Shepherd.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd and the Toy Australian Shepherd are *not recognized OR considered varieties of the Australian Shepherd by the following Clubs and Organisations.

  • the CNASA

  • the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC)

  • the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA)

  • the American Kennel Club (AKC)

  • the United Kennel Club (UKC)

Since these dogs are not CKC / ASCA / AKC / &/or UKC registered, they cannot be verified as purebred, and therefore are not considered Australian Shepherds by this organization.

The CNASA does not support the purposeful breeding of Miniature Australian Shepherds and Toy Australian Shepherds.

The CNASA further encourages all members to be ever vigilant in the preservation and protection of the Australian Shepherd and recognise our Breed Standard of Excellence.
